The festival-day plan
Four ways to do this, from most relaxed to most stubborn.
Arrive before 8:30 AM
Roll into the county lot (1 Susquehanna St), pay, and get coffee while the vendors set up. You'll watch the chaos arrive instead of being part of it. This is the best version of festival day.
Arriving 9:30 AM – 3 PM: go straight to overflow
Don't audition the downtown lots — commit to the shuttle setup below and you'll be on Broadway faster than anyone circling.
The Sunday switch
Sunday is still busy — make no mistake, it's a festival weekend and the town fills up. But it's a step down from Saturday, and on these weekends every step down counts. Your odds are better, but the same early-arrival advice applies.
The late shift (after 3 PM)
Morning crowds thin out, spots turn over, and the light gets golden. Arrive late, catch the last hours of the festival, and stay for dinner — the town is at its best when the tour buses leave.
Shuttle & overflow details
2026 details haven't been officially announced yet — here's how it worked last season, which is your best preview. We'll update the moment 2026 plans publish.
Mauch Chunk Lake Park (625 Lentz Trail) — the county's reserved system: prepay for a spot outside town, ride the shuttle downtown. The most predictable option on a festival Saturday.
Sam Miller Field (122 North Ave, the Heights) — weekend shuttle service dropping off next to the Opera House, right in the middle of the festival.
Immaculate Conception Parish (178 W. Broadway) — church lot open for parking on October weekends.
Pocono Whitewater (1519 Rt 903) and Whitewater Rafting Adventures (Nesquehoning) — outfitter lots with shuttle service; last season Pocono Whitewater ran free parking with a $5/person round-trip shuttle, Saturdays 9–7 and Sundays 9–6, dropping at River St with a short walk across the footbridge into town. Note: those shuttles weren't wheelchair-equipped.
Meanwhile, know this: accessible parking exists only at the county lot and is limited — on festival days, early arrival is essential. See the accessibility guide for the full picture. Buses, campers, and trailers pay $75 on weekends and holidays at the county lot.
Worth knowing before you go
Pay before you walk away. Kiosks are zone-specific — make sure you're paying at the kiosk for the zone you parked in, or use the Flowbird app or pay-by-text on the sign.
W. Broadway is a trap. Residential permit only, marked with red signs, actively enforced on festival days.
Street spots have a 5-hour limit, which runs out before an all-day festival visit does.
The train sells out on festival weekends — book ahead rather than showing up hoping for seats. Tickets can be bought here.
Good to know
What time do the lots actually fill?
On festival Saturdays the county lot can be gone before 9 AM. Treat 8 AM as your target if you want to park downtown.
Is Sunday easier than Saturday?
Somewhat. It's still a festival weekend and the town fills up, so the same early-arrival advice applies.
Do traffic patterns change?
Yes — expect one-way conversions on Center Ave and other narrow streets, and note you can't turn left into or out of the county lot; it's barricaded. Follow signs and flaggers over your map app.
Can I park at the Jim Thorpe Market?
No. Customers only, heavily enforced, and it keeps locals from shopping at their own market.
